Homemade Ketchup

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cooking Time: 4 hours | Yield: 2 cups

I seriously think I could have ketchup on almost anything. The problem is, sweeteners and other artificial ingredients are always in the ketchup found at the grocery store.

So try this recipe so you can have one more staple item that is 100% good for you.

I got this easy slow cooker recipe from Balanced Bites by Diane Sanfilippo and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to hear what you think!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 green or granny smith apples, peeled and diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 1/4 tsp allspice

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 pinches of cloves

  • 1/4 tsp ginger

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 6 oz tomato paste

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Place all of the ingredients in a slow cooker. Set on low and cook for 4 hours.

  2. Allow the mixture to cool slightly and then place in a food processor or high speed blender and blend until smooth.

  3. Once blended, place the ketchup in glass containers and allow it to come to room temperature before refrigerating.

  4. The ketchup should last for several weeks or more in the refrigerator. If you notice any change in color, smell, or any mold growth, toss and make a new batch.

  5. The texture is similar to the store-bought ketchups but it can separate a bit over time. So just make sure to shake it before using if so. Enjoy!
